With reference to your telegram of

the 5th instant, reporting the transfer of Mr B. F. Drury to Imperial Service, and the vacancy which is thereby be created in the Staff of the Public Works Department, I have

the honour to enclose copy of a minute of the Honourable

: Director of Public Works, recommending the promotion of Mr

C. F. Gele, Mr A. F. Hollingsworth and Mr I. M. Xavier.

8. These appointments will involve

no additional expenditure, and the officers recommended

fully deserve` promotion. I, therefore endorse the recommen-

· dations of the Honourable Director of Public Works, and

- submit them for your approval.

*. As you will observe from the

minute of the Director of Public Works, he recommends that

an officer be obtained locally to fill the vacancy which will be caused if Mr Xavier's promotion be approved, and

I have instructed him accordingly to endeavour to find a

suitable officer in this: Colony",
